About Me
I have been teaching Physical Education in Prince George's County, Maryland, since 2001. Upon graduating Towson University with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management and a Minor in Business Administration, I decided to combine my two passions into a job: my love of sports and working with children. I went to Prince George's Community College to acquire the certification classes necessary for my Standard Professional Certificate. Coming from a family of educators, I went back to school to learn more about my profession, and received a Masters of Science in Physical Education with a concentration in Educational Administration from McDaniel College in 2007. Two years later, I completed my Administration Internship and received my Administration I Certificate from the State of Maryland. In 2011, I passed the Elementary Education Praxis exam and obtained a license to teach Elementary School Content in Grades 1-6. I currently hold an Advanced Professional Certificate that is valid through June 2017.
Over the past 11 years, I have worked with students in Grades PreK through 6th, broadening my educational horizon outside of the realm of physical education. I have been learning the Common Core standards with Reading and Math teachers, allowing me to teach students in small intervention groups to help them succeed in the classroom. I am the first teacher in Prince George's County to participate in the Washington Capitals Hockey School, a program which I have taken part in two times. I have worked with the Washington Wizards, Baltimore Orioles, and D.C. United to give students free tickets to sporting events. I have served on the PTSA to gain the knowledge to work with the members of our community. These opportunities have enabled me to develop strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills which allow me to cultivate a supportive learning environment.
I always seek to promote professional growth and development, as well as teamwork and collaboration. I enjoy working with parents to ensure students remain disciplined and focused, and I am always looking for new and exciting ways for students to learn about the world.
